Crafty Monday – Fur Wreath!

I love wreaths. They just add a little something to Christmas decor that makes me smile.

I wanted something different this year and it had been quite some time since I made my own. Nothing on Pinterest was really capturing my attention and most of the ones in stores were way too glittery for my tastes. So I started playing in my fabric stash to see what I could find!

Remember this dress from last year and my overcoming the fear of working with fur?

Well guess what I came across?

Yep, the rest of that fur and an idea hit me! A fur wreath!  That would be so cool!  So off to JoAnn’s I go to pick up a few times and look for more inspiration.

Wreath Before

Wreath Inspiration Found!

Once I got everything home, I fell on it like a mad woman!  Fur and glue *everywhere*! Lots of yelling too since hot glue is hot!
Worked that one out all by my lonesome!

A couple hours later and Voila!

My new wreath.  🙂  I love it!

My new crafting room and where have I been?!

I apologize for disappearing without notice but life took an interesting twist and we moved! Our previous living situation was turning into something that was not quite so pleasant to be around any longer so we decided to move.

We were very lucky to find a house that I absolutely adore. It has lots of space and it is just waiting for some color and for us to fill it with love. Instead of living in a sleepy suburb of Austin, we are now more in a sleepy suburb of San Antonio. But all in all, it’s a great location and I absolutely love it!

So let’s start the tour!

I’ll be posting about each room as I go along but for today, I want to show off the mess, I mean, the room that will be my crafting room as well as my work office.

It’s not a huge room but the space it provides will be great! And the amount of natural light it gets is absolutely wonderful! The brown shelf on the left of the picture will be sanded down and repainted. Kress painted it to have a more wood grain type look and I think it is way too dark. It needs to be lighter, brighter so I am hoping to sand it down and paint it within the next couple of weeks.  In the mean time, it’s playing the role of catch all while I unpack and get the room organized.

The table closest to the door is my desk. It’s a re-purposed drafting table and fits the bill perfectly!  I had to flip the pencil shelf since it stuck up a bit.

Desk

I found a clamp style desk organizer stuffed in a closet so I clamped that onto the back and voila, we have storage! The lamp actually belongs in the bedroom but for now, it was a safe place to put it so it didn’t get lost in the wrangling of the boxes. The bear is from Build-A-Bear that I picked up a few years ago. I fell in love with his lime green mohawk and just had to have it. So now he is my co-worker. The painting on the wall was a birthday present from my very talented friend, Kellie. I love all the colors and when I am having an incredibly frustrating day at work, I just take a break and study it for awhile.

The closet in this room is pretty awesome!  All of my SCA clothes and accouterments will live in here. I was hoping I could also house my crafting supplies and fabric but that is looking like it may very well not be the case as I keep unpacking fabric! I guess this means I should just get off my backside and start sewing! So this closet will be a work in progress as time goes on.

All in all though, I am pretty thrilled with the changes that have been going on and the promise of the future.

Crafty Monday – Purple/Green/Mint Belt complete!

I finally got my loom fixed!  All it took was a trip to Home Depot and $6 worth of parts! Woot!  What impressed me most was I had an idea of what I needed to fix it and when I talked to one of the guys in the department, he confirmed what I was thinking. Yay for knowing what I am talking about!

So the belt I started a couple of weeks ago has finally been finished!  It is on its way to Canada to be gifted to someone very special. I can’t wait to hear how it goes over.

Up next is actually a pair of belts. The request came in from a friend to make him one in his colors but with the colors of his knight down the center. Then I will make one in his Knights colors with his colors down the center. So while the pattern will be the same, the colors are reversed. It’s actually a very cool concept. I can’t wait to see how they come out!

Images of the warping will be up in the next couple weeks!

Crafting Monday – Black and Green Boot Garters

This past week I did up another quick commission. Just a simple black and green band for boot garters.

I have some commissions coming up that are fairly complicated color wise, upwards of 5 – 6 colors which is much more than I have done before but I am looking forward to the challenge!

Crafting Monday – Inkle Woven Trim

A friend of mine asked for a woven mask tie so I have slowly been working on it. Normally these would take me a couple hours top but with my elbow messed up, it’s taking me a lot longer than that.

However, it looks gorgeous so I can’t complain too terribly much. 🙂

Combat Archery Coat of Plates Progress

Piecing the plates onto the coat of plates has been slow going but it’s coming along!

The spacing on the left side is a bit tighter than that on the right because I forgot to measure before adding the plates. So now the plates on the right side for the third row need to be sanded down a bit more in order to fit. I am hoping I can get to a belt sander in the next couple of weeks to work on this.

The plates missing along the edges are missing because I need to drill another hole for the strap and buckles that will be the closure for the coat of plates.

Of course, as with all crafts, it’s not a project until something goes wrong. I started to rivet the cloth without the plate!  Good thing we caught it before I hammered down the rivets, that would have been a mess to complete.

So now I will start working on the back since I need access to a drill press and a belt sander in order to finish the front.
